Harrods exclusive - RM 038 Bubba Watson Victory Watch
“Not he who has much is rich, but he who gives much”.
One of the perils of being a celebrity is becoming remote from society at large, as you are increasingly sheltered by those who seek to protect you. In my career I have met several stars from the sporting world. They are household names who grace our television screens and are often associated with various luxury goods many of us crave.
There have been some sporting figures I have met, where I have been genuinely seduced by their personality and sense of humour. However, few can surpass the appeal of Bubba Watson.
I must confess golf has never appealed to me. If I am honest I would rather bath with a live toaster or gorge myself on the cheese in an armed mouse trap. But, when I met Bubba earlier in 2012, I found an engaging individual who repeatdely made me smile.
His professional achievements on the manicured greens of the best golf courses are well documented. He achieved fame for “that incredible shot” at the Masters in Augusta earlier this year.
Yet, despite his amazing skill on the professional golf circuit, it is Bubba’s qualities away from the glare of the media which elicit my admiration.
By his own admission, his background was humble and modest but, he clearly enjoyed a loving relationship with his family. His Christian beliefs have led to a need to help others. Before there was fame and fortune, Bubba gave his free time to children who had disabilities helping them share his passion and expertise at playing golf.
During our meeting earlier this year, Bubba openly admitted, “I see golf as fun, as something I do for a living, but golf now gives me the platform to help people that are in need”.

During 2012, Bubba has been actively working towards raising $1,000,000 for charity. To date, he has raised the incredible sum of $790,470. This is no mean feat. This has often involved Bubba auctioning several of his personal possessions on Ebay. But, Bubba never gives up and he continues to pursue his original objective of raising a seven figure sum for good causes.
Richard Mille has decided to support his friend and partner Bubba Watson. Four very special, limited edition timepieces, aptly named the “Tourbillon RM 038 Bubba Watson Victory Watch” have been created. Ten percent of the proceeds from the sale of these watches will go to the “Bubba & Friends drive to a Million” charity.
I have previously written about the amazing Richard Mille RM 038. The limited edition version, builds on the magnificence of this watch but with a few additional details which enhance its exclusivity.

In particular the four watches are embellished with a green flange and the sapphire crystal on the caseback is detailed with Bubba’s signature. Making it a worthy watch for worthy cause.
At the time of writing, watch number 2 of 4 is currently on display at the iconic department store, Harrods.
I fear sounding sycophantic, but my admiration for Bubba is heartfelt. Eric Fromm’s quote, “Not he who has much is rich, but he who gives much” perfectly applies to Bubba. His success should not measured in terms of his assets but rather the value he confers to society.
