Enamelling

A glass-like substance that is used in the form of coloured enamel powders which are mixed with special oils and applied like paint. The surface is then heated in an oven to a very high temperature (typically 800°C).

Enamelling has been used to show portraits of famous aristocrats / royalty and landscapes.

Enamelling in Geneva can be traced back to the Huguenots, the French protestants fleeing persecution in their native homeland.

Ironically, it was protestant refugees from Bohemia who established artisan tradition in Saxony.
